Amazon just released their own (somewhat simplified) implementation of the TLS protocol (SSL), called S2N. It is a much smaller codebase than OpenSSL’s (6000 lines vs 500,000 lines), so it’s much easier to review for security vulnerabilities and much easier to maintain.
